Hey Guys and Gals! Jason from Absolute Home Inspections, here again to help answer some of your home buying questions. Today’s topic is the oven Anti-Tip bracket. We do hundreds of inspections every year and one of the most common deficiencies is a lack of an oven Anti-Tip bracket.
What is an Anti-Tip bracket? An oven Anti-Tip bracket is a bracket that is hooked to the back legs of your oven to prevent the oven from tipping forward.
Why is it important? There are thousands of injuries and several deaths every year from ovens tipping over. Most of them to children under the age of 5.
Is it required? Starting in 1991 it became the law that all free-standing ovens have an Anti-Tip bracket or device attached to them.
Are they expensive? The good news is that most standard brackets cost between $10-$20!
Can I install this myself? Absolutely! This is not a tough install and there are several great “how to” videos on YouTube to assist with the process. Or if you’re not comfortable with that, call a local handy person to assist.
